Adam Phillips

PRINCIPAL

Adam is responsible for underwriting, structuring and capital allocation.

Prior to Serene Adam worked for the corporate real estate groups of Charles Schwab and Stanford University and started 366 Development, LLC in 2007 to invest in broken condo projects and other non-performing assets via loan purchases, foreclosure sales, new debt/equity recaps, participation wind downs, and other liquidations. Over the past 10 years trading counter-parties have included Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, GE Capital, Union Bank, US Bank, Standard Insurance, East West Bank, Umpqua Bank, Pacific Western Bank, Cathay Bank and numerous other sub-$20B financial institutions.

Adam graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2004 with a B.A. in History.

Vincent Phillips

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Vincent is COO and leads Serene’s Technology Practice, where he helps source opportunities in the software, eCommerce and related industries as well as perform technical and operational due diligence on deals in the space.

Vincent has founded several startups and is the former CTO of Copart and former CEO of Charles Schwab CyberTrader. He has extensive experience building FinTech enterprises with an emphasis on portfolio accounting and trading systems. He built the world’s first web trading system for Schwab.com and launched first-of-their-kind tech platforms including Copart Mobile, CyberTraderPro, and eSchwab.

Vincent received his B.A. in Computer Science and Economics from the University of California San Diego in 1983.

Charles Monts

CONTROLLER

Charles is responsible for accounting and financial reporting. He is also Controller for 366 Development, LLC and has over 40 years of experience in accounting and financial management including nearly 10 years as a CPA in public practice and over 30 years as controller/CFO of multiple companies.

Charles graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1976 with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Dane Horn

DIRECTOR, GROWTH & ALLIANCES

Dane is responsible for identifying opportunities and maintaining alliances within the venture debt and distressed debt markets.

Prior to Serene, Dane led technology sales teams in cybersecurity, recruiting software and supply chain management. He managed a regional catering company during the Great Recession and advised on client portfolios for Ameriprise Financial and Franklin Templeton Investments.

Dane graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2004 with a B.A. in Economics.

Brandon Newberg

Brandon is an analyst, managing assets and conducting due-diligence for a variety of deal types. He has experience in real estate, software development, product management, interaction design, and public art.

Brandon graduated from the Wharton School of Business in 2013 with a B.S. in Economics and from the Tisch School of the Arts with a M.P.S. in 2019.
